MESNA

Description

Mesna is an indispensable supportive care therapy for detoxification of urotoxic metabolites of ifosfamide and cyclophosphamide (when given in high dose). The dose of Mesna is atleast 20% of the ifosfamide dose on a mg-weight basis and is administered just prior to, or mixed with, ifosfamide dose. It is again given after 4 hours and after 8 hours after the ifosfamide dose. Thus, Mesna is provided in a combipack along with ifosfamide. Mesna is also available separately.

Indications:

• Use for prophylaxis of ifosfamide- induced haemorrhagic cystitis.
• To prevent or reduce haemorrhagic cystitis associated with high dose cyclophosphamide therapy.
